What does an import profile leave out?
A layer the profile lists is left out of the outlines and of the cutting files, so a frame around the drawing never becomes a part and a dimension line never reaches the cutter. Text options, grain lines and fold lines drawn on a left-out layer are still read, so a QTY: text on a notes layer still counts.
Without a profile, nothing is left out: every layer is imported. Import profiles work the same way for leather, fabric and sheet parts.
How is every other layer read?
The profile only decides what to leave out. Each imported layer is read by its name:
| Layer | Read as |
|---|---|
| AAMA/ASTM layers 1 and 11 | Outlines and cut-outs |
| Other AAMA/ASTM numbers | Travels with its part |
| A name with DRILL, NOTCH, MARK, STITCH, SEW, TEXT, LABEL, GRAIN, MIRROR, FOLD, MATCH, ENGRAVE, ETCH, SCORE, PEN or DRAW | Travels with its part |
| A grade zone, such as QZ_A or GRADE_B | Travels with its part, as a graded area of it |
| Any other name, such as CUT or 0 | Outlines and cut-outs |
Which tool cuts, draws or drills each layer is not the import’s business: a cutter profile decides that when you download the cutting files.
Which profile does an upload use?
Your first import profile is the default, and the upload form picks it for every new part library; you can pick another before you upload. To change the default, open another profile and make it the default.
Each library records the profile it was read with. A library is read once: to read the same file with another profile, upload it again. The old library can be deleted once no job uses it, since the cutting files of those jobs are built from it.
