Why the machine matters
More computing power, tighter nests
Nesting is a search. It tries layout after layout and keeps the best one, so the more computing power it gets, the more it tries in the time you give it and the less material the order needs. That is why the machine a nest runs on shows up in your yield, and why Lescut runs every job on a dedicated, powerful one.
What you can nest
Leather, fabric and sheets, nested in the cloud
Upload DXF or SVG parts in your browser, nest them on a cloud machine and download one cutting file per hide, sheet or marker, with your original layers and curves, for your knife table, laser, router or waterjet.
Leather hides
Scanned hides with defects and grade zones, nested on the fewest hides or at the lowest leather cost, in complete sets.
Leather nestingFabric on the roll
The shortest marker on your roll width, with stripe and plaid matching and folded or tubular fabric.
Fabric nestingStock sheets
Wood, plastic, composite and metal sheets, on the fewest sheets or at the lowest cost, with whole kits first.
Sheet nestingNesting on your own PC
Where desktop nesting holds you back
Desktop nesting works for a few small jobs. With a full order book, the PC becomes the bottleneck.
One job at a time
A desktop nester shares one processor between every job, so a day’s orders nest one after another, or slow each other down.
Overnight runs that fail
Long jobs get left to run overnight. A power cut, a hung machine, a forced update or a PC that went to sleep, and the morning starts with no nest.
A busy, ageing PC
While it nests, the PC is slow for everything else. Better nests mean a faster workstation, and in a few years another one.
Installs and versions
Every workstation needs installing, licensing and updating, and two PCs on different versions can give different nests for the same order.
Side by side
Desktop nesting and cloud nesting compared
| Desktop nesting | Lescut in the cloud | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the nesting runs | The PC it is installed on | A dedicated, powerful cloud machine per job |
| Several jobs at once | Share one processor | Up to 10, each on its own machine |
| Long jobs | Left running overnight on the PC | Run on our machines; your PC can be off |
| Your computer while it nests | Busy and slow | Free for other work |
| Hardware | A powerful workstation to buy, maintain and upgrade | None: the computing power comes with your plan |
| Better results | Buy a faster PC | Included, and improving without upgrades |
| Updates | Installed on every workstation | Every job uses the latest engine |
| Works without internet | Yes | No: it needs a connection |
Plans and capacity
Capacity that grows with your order book
Every plan nests on cloud machines; the plan sets how many jobs run at once and how long each may search.
Starter: 1 job at a time
For a small shop nesting its orders through the day. Textile and sheet.
Pro: 2 jobs at a time
Two orders nest side by side, with the REST API for your own software.
Enterprise: 10 jobs at a time
A whole production day in parallel, longer jobs for large orders and the priority queue.

Questions about cloud nesting
What is cloud nesting software?
Cloud nesting software runs the nesting search on remote servers instead of your own computer. You upload your parts and your hides, roll width or sheets in the browser, the nest is computed in the cloud, and you download the cutting files. Lescut gives every job a dedicated, powerful cloud machine for the time you set.
How much does cloud nesting software cost?
Lescut plans start at €29 a month, sized by engine minutes, with no installation, hardware or maintenance fee. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial with 30 to 60 engine minutes, depending on the material, and you can cancel at any time.
Which files and cutting machines does it work with?
You upload DXF or SVG from your CAD, pattern or cabinet software, and scanner DXF files for leather hides. You get back one DXF and SVG per hide, sheet or marker with your original layers and curves, ready for CNC knife tables, lasers, routers, waterjets and die cutting. Need another format? Send us a sample file and we can add it.
Why does a more powerful machine give better nests?
Nesting is a search: it tries layout after layout and keeps the best. The more computing power it gets, the more it tries in the time you give it, and the tighter the layout it finds. On the sample fabric marker on our home page, the final layout is 13% shorter than the first one the search found.
What is wrong with nesting on my own PC?
Nothing for small jobs. For a full order book it adds up: jobs share one processor and wait for each other, the PC is slow while it nests, long jobs get left overnight where a power cut or a hung machine loses the run, and better results mean buying a faster workstation. Lescut moves all of that to our machines.
How many jobs can run at the same time?
It depends on the plan: 1 job at a time on the Starter plans, 2 on Pro and 10 on Enterprise, each on its own machine. On Enterprise a whole production day can nest at once: 10 jobs of 60 minutes finish together in 60 minutes, not 10 hours one after another.
Do I need to keep my computer on while a job runs?
No. The job runs on our machines to its time limit. Close the browser or switch the computer off; the result and the cutting files are waiting when you sign in again, from any computer.
Are my files safe in the cloud?
Your files are stored privately in EU (Frankfurt), encrypted, and only your organization can see them. We never share them, sell them or use them to develop or tune our software. Through the API your system can even send the outlines with each job, so no file is stored at all.
Does it work offline?
No. Lescut needs an internet connection to upload files, start jobs and download results. In exchange, the nesting itself no longer depends on the computer in front of you.
